We'd also love to connect with any local businesses, groups and schools to encourage local engagement.  We've got plenty of new ideas and projects in the pipeline that aim to engage and inspire everyone in our community to get growing!

Below are some of the current and recent projects we have been working on :

Grow, Cook, Eat
festival 2025

Despite the best efforts of Storm Amy, we had a splendid day on October 4th at our 2025 Grow, Cook, Eat Festival! The storm may have brought about some challenges, but it couldn't dampen our spirits. Thanks to some quick thinking and last-minute rearrangements, we were able to set up a vibrant produce and seed swap stall, along with an exciting smoothie bike in Great Eastern Square, bringing a touch of sunny enjoyment to a blustery day.

Children were kept entertained with a variety of engaging activities, while the rest of us sought refuge indoors, where the atmosphere remained lively and warm. The festival truly exemplified the essence of our Community Interest Group, as we came together to celebrate the joys of growing, cooking, and eating fresh, local produce. It was a day filled with laughter, learning, and the strength of community spirit resilience!

'Make a Difference' awards
2025
finalists

We were very excited to have been chosen as finalists in the BBC Suffolk Make a Difference Awards 2025 in the Green Category. 5 of us attended the awards evening at Trinity Park for what was a humbling and life affirming event. Although we have only been going for a year and a half it was amazing to have been finalists already and we took home a highly commended trophy !

Felixstowe
Environmental
Awards 2025

Kate and Elizabeth were delighted to attend the Environmental Awards evening at Fludyers in May. Organised by 2 amazing organisations Green Impact Felixstowe and Litter Free Felixstowe, the evening celebrated all those in the community who are helping to keep our surroundings green and environmentally friendly. Lots of awards went to individuals and organisations including many local schools and it was wondeful to see how invested we all are in our surroundings.

We were thrilled to have been awarded 'Highly Commended' in the Green Impact award for our work so far!

Sow n'Grow 2025

Our recent Sow n Grow iniative was a big success and we got lots of you trying out how to grow veggies from seeds. We hope that we have inspired you to have a go and growing your own food; in a world of uncertainty it’s a great positive  thing to watch something grow in front of you!

If anyone has grown anything and wants to donate to us, please take plants along to the library who have agreed to be a collection point for us

Stop press...we have been awarded a new grant for 2026!

A community orchard for Felixstowe!

We have recently been awarded a grant from East Suffolk Council to plant a community orchard in Felixstowe, this will comprise dwarf stock fruit trees and bushes (gooseberry, raspberry and the like.) Originally we were hoping to use the land adjacent to the BT substation on Beatrice Avenue, however after contacting the managing agents of this land they do not give permission for anything edible to be grown on this area due to the ‘possibility of contamination’, so we are scuppered but not deterred!

Instead we have decided it would be better to have a community orchard around the town and spread the trees out amongst us. We are talking to the Town Council about possible locations that they have jurisdiction over and we have already been speaking to others with private, publicly accessible land but if anyone has some good ideas as to where to plant them please get in touch. We also will need help to plant them all, please use our contact form to get in touch!

our growing areas in 2025

the Edible Felixstowe Elves have been out and about constructing raised beds in different locations over the spring and they are now ready to fill.

This year you will find us in the following locations about town, see our gallery page to see how the plants have grown!

Felixstowe Library Beds

Our 3 new raised beds :  one will become a tea garden with herbs to flavour your brew.  We have planted corn, beans & squash in the middle and beans and beetroot in the end. We also have new fruit trees along the back railings and runner beans down the side.

The Triangle Salad Bowl

This year we are going for a salad bowl look to the circle. Sunflowers in the middle and salad ingredients (herbs, lettuce, rocket, tomatoes, spring onions etc) in a bowl shape.

The Station Platform

Next time you are returning home on the train you will be sure to spot our newly constructed planters -this site is in full sun and quite challenging to keep from drying our but we have planted corn, tomatoes and herbs for you to pick for your supper! We have also got Greater Anglia to install a waterbutt from the station roof downpipe to help with recycling water

Hamilton Road Planters

These have over wintered many of our herbs here and many of the cornflowers and violas have self -seeded. We are continuing to plantnew crops in them and will soon be adding signage.

Adam & Eve Hairdressers

Next time you are at Sainsbury's, take a glance over to the entrance to Great Eastern Square where we have planted up herbs and edible flowers on the ledges outside Adam & Eve Hairdressers. They are under the cover of the building so we will all be keeping a close eye on how they are fairing through the season!

Kingsfleet Primary School

We constructed 3 raised beds at the front of Kingsfleet Primary School back in April, we then asked years 5 & 6 what they would like to plant there. We returned in June to help them fill the beds with compost and plant a mixture of different vegetables and herbs for the whole community around the school to enjoy! It was great to see such enthusiasm from staff and pupils alike for the project.

Taba Naba Gift Shop
Hamilton Road

This amazing local gift shop actually constructed their own planter last year especially for us to plant up. It is quite a challenging location as it is in full sun for the afternoon and has an overhang from the shop front. This year we have planted tomatoes and herbs along with some edible plants.
