Hello & welcome! Edible Felixstowe are a friendly community interest company dedicated to growing edible produce in our town and enhancing our landscape 🌱
We're all about growing delicious fruit, vibrant vegetables, fragrant herbs, and beautiful edible flowers right here in the middle of our town, for everyone to enjoy!
We’d absolutely love for you to join us in our mission to make growing, cooking (and eating!) locally produced food fun and accessible for everyone! New for 2026!
A community orchard for Felixstowe!
We have recently been awarded a grant from East Suffolk Council to plant a community orchard in Felixstowe, this now comprises dwarf stock fruit trees and bushes (gooseberry, raspberry and the like.) Originally we were hoping to use the land adjacent to the BT substation on Beatrice Avenue, however after contacting the managing agents of this land they do not give permission for anything edible to be grown on this area due to the ‘possibility of contamination’, so we are scuppered but not deterred!
Instead we decided it would be better to have a community orchard around the town and spread the trees out amongst us. We talked to the Town Council and East Suffolk Council and gained permissions to plant at Bath Hill gardens, Cavendish Park, Langley Avenue, along with St Johns, St Edmunds and St Phillips church among our sites In all we have planted 38 fruit trees along with fruit bushes in other locations. Discover What We Do at Edible Felixstowe!
We believe in the power of locally grown produce, sustainability and the benefits of being outdoors for improving our mental health. Our vision is to create a thriving gardening iniative that not only beautifies our town but also fosters a sense of community among residents. There are many opportunities to get involved, whether you’re a seasoned gardener or just starting out. Join us in our various initiatives, from growing organic vegetables in publicily accessible areas to attending demos on how to cook the food we've grown. We'd also love to connect with any local businesses, groups and schools to encourage local engagement. We've got plenty of new ideas and projects in the pipeline that aim to engage and inspire everyone in our community to get growing!

Grow, Cook, Eat
festival 2026
Our annual Grow, Cook, Eat Festival, will this year be held in a new location at The Salvation Army Hall in Cobbold Road on Saturday October 3rd from 11-2.
It will retain many of the familiar attractions from previous years — seed swaps, local food producers, local community stalls, food related activites for adults and children as well as delicious cakes and soup— This year it will also encompass two seperate food workshops, one focusing on soup making and the other on preserving.

Jam Making workshop

Come along to Stennetts Cafe in Trimley and join our community interest group for a friendly jam-making workshop — discover how easy it is to make delicious jam, and take home a recipe along with a pot of your own making.

Soup Making

We invite you to come along to the Salvation Army Hall on Saturday 3 October to learn how to make delicious, nutritious soup and soda bread rolls — these will then be served at our event later the same day. All are welcome to join this friendly, hands‑on session where you’ll pick up easy recipes, cooking tips and new friends to share them with.

Edible Classroom

Our Edible Towns initiative was recently hosted by Heidi and Keeley who ran two day workshops, welcoming eight delegates from other towns in Suffolk to learn firsthand how our community interest group has transformed public spaces into productive, community-managed food gardens. The purpose was to showcase what we have achieved—community orchards, edible planting schemes and volunteer-led maintenance—and to provide practical guidance on how to start a similar scheme in their own areas, sharing lessons learned, useful contacts, funding ideas and simple steps to get neighbours involved so the model can be replicated across the county.

the Edible Felixstowe Elves have been out and about constructing raised beds in different locations over the spring and they are now ready to fill.
This year you will find us in the following locations about town, see our gallery page to see how the plants have grown!
Felixstowe Library Beds
Over the winter we have taken out the old pyrocanthus bush adjacent to the library which had leached the soil of any goodness over the years and constructed 2 new raised beds for fruit bushes and put in 2 waterbutts from the downpipe (all we need now is some rain!) These now complement the existing herb and vegetable beds on the railings side of the library. We thank them for their ongoing support!
The Triangle Salad Bowl
This year we are going for a 'new look' salad bowl with a corden of tomatoes in the middle and sections of lettuce, rocket, herbs etc around it.
The Station Platform
Next time you are returning home on the train you will be sure to spot our planters -this site is in full sun and quite challenging to keep from drying our but we have planted corn, tomatoes and herbs for you to pick for your supper! We have also got Greater Anglia to install a waterbutt from the station roof downpipe to help with recycling water
This season we have also added 2 new planters with fig bushes in each, underplanted with nasturtiums
Hamilton Road Planters
These have over wintered many of our herbs here and many of the cornflowers and violas have self -seeded. We are continuing to plantnew crops in them and will soon be adding signage.
Adam & Eve Hairdressers
Next time you are at Sainsbury's, take a glance over to the entrance to Great Eastern Square where we have planted up herbs and edible flowers on the ledges outside Adam & Eve Hairdressers. This season we have planted two additional fig trees in planters (supplied by them) This seemed like the ideal tree to plant in this location!
